SelfMade - Glasses in Solidworks

I have always wanted to teach myself more 3D programs, with my previous CAD and 3D modeling background, I figured what better software to learn than SolidWorks.

So with an up coming entrepreneurial opportunity, I thought what great time to learn. Here are some completed images.

Eric Salas - Side Work

Here is just a sample of some side work I did for a job. I used Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Trapcode Particular.

Cauldron Bubbles - FX updates

I haven't posted in a long time because I was still working on some of the FX, even though they are in test renders still, I just wanted to post a few to show how things are going.

For these I used Maya 2011, Realflow 5, and After Effects.

Hope everyone is doing well.

The purpose of the showcase is to present a screening of student work, so that everyone can come and enjoy and view the progress and talent in side the Arts and Technology program.

For this years showcase a group of us made a really short video featuring Jorge from Halo.

Modeling - Slade Jansa, Nick Shirsty
Rigging - Slade Jansa
Animation - Slade Jansa, Nick Shirsty
Camera Effects - Bryan Martin
Sound Design - Louis Lupin

Programs I used After Effects for the camera FX.

Cauldron Bubbles - Cauldron's Actual Bubbles :)

So I know I have been somewhat MIA for a little while, but I have been working diligently on creating the bubbling cauldron. I tried several different approaches from using Maya particles and making them show up as spheres to be used for the bubbles, but the problems came when I tried to take "animated spheres" into Realflow. I kept getting just a file with no movement, so after searching and searching I finally found someone that had used RealFlow to make the bubbles and the water. Below is the first animation that I have of the bubbles.

Thanks

Cauldron Bubbles - Cottage TurnTable Render

Here is the render I did ONLY to show the texture all the way around the cottage.

I still am not completely happy with how the displacement is on the rocks and building, so when things settle down on other projects, I am coming back to work this out.

Please put in some feed back, so I can add it to my list of tweaks.

I want to make this a center piece in my portfolio.

Thanks

Bryan

Cauldron Bubbles - Cottage Texturing ...Continued

So I was able to get the displacement map to work correctly so I added an occlusion to the color map to break out the stones a bit more. I did the wall texturing on the cottage and the roof windows.

I will finish this TOMORROW!

Cauldron Bubbles - Cottage Texturing

Today I worked for a little bit on the cottage texturing. I used Mudbox for the chimney and base of the house and used Photoshop for the rest of the textures in the photo. I want to add vines to the side of the chimney to give it more character. And while sitting here watching it render, I think I should add some more moss going on the bottom of the chimney. Does anyone else think so?

Monkey - Cartoon Monkey

So I have been working on this monkey for a T-shirt company. He is going to be posed in certain ways to create 2D graphics for a T-shirt line.

Lower half to be finished soon, 12.5 hours in so far. I think I spent a little to much time on the hands trying to get organic mesh to flow the way I like. The picture below is only to show the mesh layout, the shaping on the hand still needs a little work.

I also plan on rigging and texturing him. He is going to make a great demo piece. I might try and render him in a cartoon shader and make a small animation of him.

Keep checking back, and hope to hear any feedback from you guys.

Cauldron Bubbles - Stylized Organic Trees

Yesterday and today I have been working on some stylized trees that will be used mostly in the opening shot. I am working to make them very organic and somewhat natural looking, but also disproportioned and stylized.

Here are just a few screen shots of the proxy, proxy smoothed, and my tree.

I am still working on this, but wanted to post an update since the Super Bowl is this afternoon, and I probably won't get much done later. :)

Also, the tree on the far left is my tree with about 515 faces at the moment.

Cauldron Bubbles - Modeling and Water for Moat

So for this weekend and since I last left off, I have worked on adding more details to the cottage. This includes making the moat have sharper edges and a steeper slope, as well as adding boards to the outside along with an extra window on the roof.  I haven't imported the RealFlow mesh in this shot, so it is just the default Maya mesh I made as a place holder.

The stones on the chimney will be done with a displacement map, so I will post an update of that soon.
I have also been working on using Realflow 5 to create a realistic moving water for the moat. I hope to post a short video of it in action when it is done simulating.

All tips and comments welcome.

Don't Lose track----------->

This post is to help me keep track of projects that I still need to finish and to show what I have completed so far.

First up... Shrek....!  Those of you who know me, know I love Shrek. I even have a tattoo of Shrek and the Gang! But well I have only modeled his head and body but still working on the arms and hands, but as you can see its not looking to shabby.

Second is a demon that was concepted by Edward Taylor. He has an amazing talent and there are so many models I want to make from his art, but well as of right now I had to choose one! So I chose the Naberious Demon as my final project last semester. I know I didn't finish it, but it takes a tremendous amount of time to do these things, but I will finish it. I am very happy with the way it is looking at the moment. I just need to work more on his legs and face but not to bad!

Let me know what you guys think!

Bryan

Next project - Flight of the navigator

So as I'm sitting here about to work on my cottage for Cauldron Bubbles, I decided to update my profile for blogger, and was putting in my favorite movies.

My next project is going to be the space ship from Flight of the Navigator! I want to do the inside and the little computer guy that talks to him, Ralf. :) It's going to be super sweet.

I'm posting my ref images below just so I have them all in one place, so when I get ready to start ... its all here! Oh, and also for those of you who have never seen the movie :)!! Shame on you!!

Cauldron Bubbles - Roof

Here are a few screen shots, I have added roof tiles as well as opened the windows on the side of the house, added a bridge over the moat. I still need to add windows on the top of the roof, and add window dividers to the front windows.

I'll work on that tomorrow!

UTD Facilities Management

Cauldron Bubbles

This is an animated short that was written and designed by Edward Taylor. He is my fellow class mate at UT Dallas and we are both finishing up our Masters in Art and Technology. On this project I am going to be modeling the cottage and doing the special FX, which I hope to use Houdini. I will also be using Photoshop, Maya, and After Effects.

So far I have built the Cottage and bellow is a screen shot.

Please feel free to share your thoughts about this.

Thanks
